Joan Pew is a seasoned HR professional with 18 years of experience at a large international law firm. Throughout her career, she has honed her skills in building infrastructure, crafting policies, and fostering employee engagement. Joan has established HR systems in the Middle East, ensuring cultural and legal compliance, and has managed global initiatives ranging from mental health resources to community engagement programs. She has spent much of her career creating inclusive environments and strategically enhancing employee well-being and development.

Joan received her degree from George Washington University in Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. She grew up on Nantucket Island in a cottage attached to her dad's fishing tackle shop. Her fondest memories are of waking up before dawn and heading to the beach, where she and her dad would fish for bluefish and stripers in silence as the sun rose. She also spent much of her childhood tagging along with her mother at the tennis and platform tennis courts, enjoying racquet sports from an early age. This exposure to sports and the outdoors fostered a lifelong passion for active living and community engagement.

Joan and her husband moved to the Midcoast in January of 2021, based on a dream to live in a place reminiscent of her childhood on the island, where life was simpler, kids spent their time playing outdoors, and the ocean served as their greatest playground. Soon after their move, Joan and her family found a welcoming community at MRC through pickleball. Her son's involvement in tennis and her daughter’s participation in ice skating lessons have given her firsthand insight into the center's impact.

With her professional acumen and genuine passion for MRC's mission, Joan hopes to contribute meaningfully to ensuring MRC remains a vibrant, inclusive hub for health, recreation, and community connection. She is dedicated to supporting MRC's goal of providing opportunities for all individuals to engage, grow, and thrive within the Mid-coast Maine community.
